Setubandha 2015: Expanding Horizons

Setubandha 2015 was organized at Sri Sri Ramraikuti Sattra in Dhubri district, a region of historical significance bordering Bangladesh. The event aimed to foster social relationships and integration across Assam, North and West Bengal, and parts of Bangladesh.

14 MARCH 2015

  • Inaugural Programme – Flag hoisting followed by Naam Prasanga
  • Open Session – Open Session on Setubandha. In this Open session ‘Xukladhwaj – Axomia Xatta, Xamannoi aru Kamata Aityajya’ edited by Sjt Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta was released.
  • Interactive Session – In the evening an Interactive Session amongst the youths and socially conscious people of the greater Satrasal area and the Dhubri district was held. Scholars, Intellectuals and Social Activists participated in this session.
  • Cultural Evening
    • Performances of Borgeet, Sattriya Nritya by the artists from Siliguri,
    • Performance of Gowalini Nritya by the artists from Satrasal,
    • Performance of Kushangan Nritya by the artists from Balajan.
    • Ram Vijay Bhaona, performed by the artists from Sri Sri Ramraikuthi Sattra, Satrasal.
    • ‘Geetor Xorai’ were presented by Shri Ram Krishna Bhakat, Shri Prabir Sarkar and Shri Krishnamoni Nath.

15 MARCH 2015

  • Setubandha Parikrama – started from the Mahamaya Field, Gauripur to Gauripur Field, Dhubri. The participation was by the various cultural groups from Western Assam. The procession flagged off jointly by Shri Lila Kanta Mahanta, President, Asom Sattra Mahasabha and Shri Nazrul Islam, DC, Dhubri was led by a tableau of Madhupur Sattra specially made for the occasion. Later the cultural procession assembled in the District Library at Dhubri where the various groups demonstrated their performances with various speakers like Shri Jagat Kalita from Srimanta Sankaradev Sangha, Shri Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Shri Dilip Chandan, Shri Nazrul Islam, and Shri Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, addressing the artists.
  • Cultural Evening
    • Performance of Borgeet led by Smt. Kamal priya Das and her group from Satrasal
    • Performance of Sattriya Nritya by the artists from Gauripur
    • Performance of Padda Puran Nritya by the artists from Ronpagli
    • Performance of Zikir by the artists from Ronpagli and Jashkal
    • Rukmini Haran Bhaona performed by the artist from Madati Sattra and Bishnu Rabha Library, Madati, Kokrajhar district.
    • ‘Geetor Xoarai’ were presented by Smt Monomati Roy and Shri Arijit Roy from Gauripur
  • SALIENT ASPECTS OF SETUBANDHA 2015
    • Discuss bhaona through two workshops by producing Ram-Vijay at Sri Sri Ramraikuthi Sattra, which was incidentally the last of the nats written by Sankaradeva at that very Sattra at Satrasal and Rukmini Haron bhaona at Madati in Kokrajhar district.
    • Besides bhaona, two workshops on Zikir and Zari at Satrasal conducted where the participants were from Jashkal, Ronpagli and around the Sattra and the other one at the B N College in Dhubri where the students participated
    • Sattriya dance presentation by the artists from Siliguri as well as there were scholars and activists who participated in this two days event.
    • An important document which evolved out of this process and programme this time was Xukladhwaj, Axomia Xatta, Xamannoy aru Kamata Aityajya, the Setubandha book conceived and crafted by Srimanta Foundation and edited by Sjt Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta. This book is of 364 pages being divide into 3 broad sections viz., (i) Jakeri Nahike Upam (ii) Kamatapur Goirabh Gatha and (iii) Setubandha bibidha. Contributions by the authors are in Assamese, Rajbonshi and Bengali language.
